Monroe Signed,
Tyner Non-Tendered
UPDATE 6:06 p.m. – Awhile ago,
Joe
Christensen received his verification that Tyner had indeed been non-tendered.

UPDATE 10:58 a.m. – Joe Christensen
writes that he is trying to confirm the Tyner non-tender. With Michael Cuddyer,
Delmon Young, Jason Kubel and Craig Monroe already in the fold, and the clear direction that the
Twins will be adding a CF via a potential Johan
Santana trade, the move really does make a lot of sense.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Earlier today, we learned that the Twins had signed OF Craig
Monroe to a one year contract for about $3.82 million. We all wondered what his
role would be on the team. I think signing him gives the team a little pop off
the bench. For all his negatives in terms of strikeouts and lack of walks, he
does potentially have the ability to hit for power and hit left handers.
Well, tonight a ‘little birdie’ told me that the Twins have
non-tendered Jason Tyner. Although Tyner is far from the perfect ball player
both offensively and defensively, I can honestly say that I did not see this
coming. I figured that for $800,000 or so, they would keep him around because
of his ability to play CF. But with lefty CF options Denard
Span and Jason Pridie already on the 40 man roster, I suppose I shouldn’t be completely surprised.
The Twins also had room on the 40 man roster, so I don’t fully
understand the need for this move. Maybe something else is brewing?
Any thoughts?
