Nick Herling is back with this week's Wild Wednesday article. If you're not a Wild fan, it's still good to read. If you're not a hockey fan... well, play this game! It's fun! Leave some Comments or e-mail me, if you will.
Also, if you didn't notice, I posted a brief article last night on the non-goings on at the Winter Meetings. Check it out here.
The Wild have not been good at all lately. Theyíve managed just 1 point in the last week. They lost 2-1 to San Jose last Wednesday and 3-0 to Detroit on Friday. Both games were at home. The lone point of the week came in an overtime loss at Dallas on Saturday. They havenít been able to put the puck in the net, and you canít win games when you donít score.
They are starting to get healthy. Both Pavol Demitra and Wes Walz came back this week. Marion Gaborik isnít playing Tuesday night against Chicago, but he is expected back this week. So, thatís good news, but hopefully it results in more wins for this team. The Wild finally lost their lead in the division, but are only two points out. Thatís not too bad of a position for how poorly theyíve played.
The Wild havenít been good, so Iím going to talk about something I think is pretty cool. Fox Sports Net is back with their second season of ďHigh School Hockey Night in MinnesotaĒ. If you live in Minnesota you probably know how big high school hockey is. The state high school hockey tournament brings thousands of people from all over the state to the Twin Cities every March. I find myself glued to the TV that time of year watching some really exciting hockey. There are a lot of good hockey players that come out of the state of Minnesota every year. So, I think Fox Sports Net came up with a great idea. They televise from arenas all over the state. I was at the game they televised in Warroad last year. They were there for the Roseau vs. Warroad rivalry and will be back again this year. Iím from Roseau, but work in Warroad. Obviously Iím still a Ram fan. My Rams lost last year 2-1, and were the better team, but definitely not that night. I lost a bet on that game, so it still stings a bit. Iíll be there again this year and Iíd suggest taking in that game. Cheer for the green and white please. FSN is televising a lot of games throughout the winter. Some games of interest I would like to suggest are: Cretin-Derham Hall vs. St. Thomas Academy (CDH is the defending class AA champ, and St. Thomas Academy is the defending class A champ) ,the Roseau vs. Warroad game in Warroad, and St. Paul Johnson is coming to Baudette to play an outdoor game. It will be played on Baudette Bay. That will definitely be a cool game to watch. Here is a list of games FSN will be televising this winter:
White Bear Lake at Hill Murray
Grand Rapids at Moorhead
Elk River at Edina
Eden Prairie vs. Grand Rapids
Cretin-Derham Hall vs. St. Thomas Academy
Schwan Cup (4 games)
Roseau at Warroad
Elk River at Anoka
St. Paul Johnson at Lake of the Woods
Eastview at Jefferson
Duluth East at Cloquet
Holy Angels at Benilde St. Margaret's
Duluth East at Buffalo
Centennial at Blaine
Edina at Wayzata
If you like hockey, youíll enjoy these games. Iím watching the White Bear Lake vs. Hill Murray game right now. Itís an exciting game, and this is a big rivalry in the metro area. They battle each other every year to get to the coveted state tournament.
Hopefully Iíll be back with something positive to report on the Wild next week. Until then, have a good week and enjoy some high school hockey this winter.
