Twins Pick Up Cuddyer Option
The Twins had until Monday but
to no one’s surprise, the Twins have picked
up the 2011 option on Michael Cuddyer’s contract. He will make $10.5 million in 2011
after he makes $8.5 million in 2010. This was an easy decision. It allows them
to continue to negotiate a potential extension, but after a strong 32 home run
season in which he carried the team for the final month of the year, this was
an easy choice.

Wilson Ramos
Injured
According to Baseball America’s
John Manuel, Twins catching prospect Wilson Ramos hurt his knee playing in the Venezuelan Winter league.
The article states that Bill Smith
is aware of the injury, but at this point they are not aware of the severity. Thoughts? (Ramos was 31-77
(.403/.460/.766) with 8 doubles, a triple, 6 HR and 23 RBI in 20 games for
Aragua.)

Twins Acquire JJ
Hardy for Carlos Gomez
The Twins just acquired JJ Hardy
from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for Carlos
Gomez. (Hat tip to Joe
Hamrahi
from Baseball Daily Digest.
Alright, I had to post that quickly, so now I’m back to give my opinion. I
LOVE it! What are great move! In essence, the Twins solved two problems with
one move. First, it solves the SS situation for the next two years. As
disappointing as Hardy was in 2009, it is still better than the Twins had. As
important, it essentially means that the Twins will not bring back Orlando Cabrera, which is a huge
positive, offensively and defensively. Secondly, the OF situation is set. Delmon Young is in LF. Denard Span is in CF. And Michael Cuddyer is in RF. Jason
Kubel can DH and play some in LF or RF. Carlos Gomez was a good outfielder. He
can still get better. He doesn’t always take good routes to the ball. He’s just
so fast. Unfortunately, that didn’t transfer to stolen bases, in part because
you have to get on base to steal bases. Second, he just could not read
pitchers. For some reason, he quit bunting after May of 2008! The Brewers need
a CF to replace Mike Cameron, and
Gomez still has some potential.
