Monday Morning… Uggh!

Good Morning! Well, it took awhile to get the customer service rep from the company that I bought a router and adapter from, and then we tried to troubleshoot a bunch of things only to find out that in the end, I just had a bad adapter and need to take it back and get a new one. Very frustrating, but hopefully I will get a new adapter today and get it working tonight. I really hope so because it’s playoff baseball time and even though the Twins aren’t in the playoffs, it is still an exciting time of the year with plenty to talk about. But for today, I am going to just bullet point some random thoughts from the weekend and such. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to e-mail me or leave comments below. Thanks and have a great week!

·         Well, the Twins ended their season with a nice win yesterday against the Boston Red Sox. Matt Garza looked good (despite too many pitches) in the first five innings, and then Scott Baker pitched three very good innings out of the bullpen. Joe Nathan made it interesting, but held on for the Save.

·         Now it is time to definitely start thinking 2008, but first a congratulations to Terry Ryan on his retirement. Along with that, good luck to Bill Smith with what will certainly be an interesting offseason for the Twins and their fans!  Obviously as I get internet issues figured out, I will certainly be updating frequently on any changes or rumors going on with the Twins.

·         But you’ve got to know that I am officially on the Phillies bandwagon after their historic comeback which saw them make up 7 games since September 12th and on the final day, they edged out the NY Mets to win the NL East. As much as I am not a fan of JC Romero and Kyle Lohse, I am more of a fan of 2006 NL MVP Ryan Howard, 2007 Should-Be MVP Jimmy Rollins and arguably the team’s best all-around hitter Chase Utley. And of course, a huge congratulations to Chris Coste who entered the game in the 5th inning, replacing Carlos Ruiz who left with a left elbow injury. He went 0-1 and scored a run on Jimmy Rollins’ triple. The highlight had to be catching the called third strike from Brett Myers to Wily Mo Pena that ended the game and officially sent the Phillies to the playoffs for the first time in 14 years!

·         There could have been a four way tie for the NL Wild Card had things played out differently. Fortunately, the situation isn’t quite that convoluted, but there will be one play-in game tonight. The Colorado Rockies won again and the Padres found a way to lose (helped tremendously by the three walks from former Twins farmhand Kevin Cameron), forcing a one-game play-in game. Go Rockies!

·         And yes, I am starting to lean toward strong consideration for Troy Tulowitski of the Rockies as my choice for NL Rookie of the Year, maybe, maybe over the Brewers’ Ryan Braun.

·         In the AL, it’ll be hard for a team to beat CC Sabathia and Fausto Carmona, so I’m picking Cleveland in the AL to play the Phillies in the World Series.

·         By the way, if you missed it, La Velle E. Neal posted his Top 10 Twins prospects and a story in the Trib on Sunday.

·         On Saturday night, my brother got us tickets to the Minnesota Gophers/Ohio State Buckeyes game. I was expecting something like 70-7. The Gophers played well in the first half, until the final minute, but after that, it was all Ohio State. The tickets he got were front row, lower level. But we wanted to actually see the game, not just the backs of helmets, so we went up and sat in the front row in the upper deck, behind one of the goal posts. I love the view from up there!

·         I’ve got a cousin that plays linebacker for Gustavus Adolphus college of the MIAC (Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference). I had planned on heading down to St. Olaf on Saturday morning to watch him play. Twins 11th round draft pick this summer Andrew Schmiesing is a Wide Receiver for St. Olaf. I didn’t go because of weather, but Schmiesing had quite a day! He had eight catches for 138 yards and four touchdowns (15 yards, 18 yards, 18 yards and 19 yards). Not bad!

·         The Vikings played really bad offensively again yesterday and yet still had a chance to win because their defense is very good. Speaking of very good, Brett Favre is pretty incredible. I don’t care what anyone thinks of him, he is an amazing quarterback talent. He set the record for most touchdown passes, but his quality as a quarterback is his ability to improvise and lead!

·         Adrian Peterson had 10 rushes for 108 yards in the first half, including a 55 yard run. He ended the game with 12 rushes for 112 yards. Hmmm…

Anyway, I best get going. Wish me luck in getting my internet connection working tonight and my attempt to return to some normalcy on here.

Have a great week!
