Miracle Still Alive!
Yesterday, I mistakenly reported that the Ft. Myers
Miracle lost games one and two of the Florida State League championship series.
I had forgotten that the championship series was a Best of Five, not a best of
three. So, the Miracle lived another night, and tonight they beat Daytona by a
score of 5-3.
The Miracle got off to a great start when Edward Ovalle
hit a two run homer in the top of the first inning. The Daytona Cubs cut the
Miracle lead to one in the bottom of the third. But the Miracle responded
perfectly. Rene Tosoni
led off with a single. Wilson Ramos
came up and drove him in with a double. Then Whit Robbins drilled a two run homer to give the Miracle a 5-1
lead.
I have to admit that I was more than a little
surprised to see that the Miracle had Deolis Guerra
start this game. He gave up three runs on eight hits and a walk in 4.1 innings.
He struck out three. Jose Lugo got
the final two outs of the fifth inning. Carlos
Gutierrez then pitched a scoreless inning. Blair Erickson got the next five outs, three of them on strikeouts.
Stop!
It’s Slama time! Anthony
Slama came in and got the final four outs for his
third save. He did give up a hit and walked two. Of course, all four outs came
via the strikeout.
The middle of the order definitely came through for
the Miracle. Edward Ovalle
batted third and went 2-4 with the two-run homer. Rene Tosoni batted third and went 2-3 with
a walk. Wilson Ramos was 2-4 with
the RBI double.
The same two teams will play again on Tuesday night in Daytona.
