Short Stops
The Twins had a day off. Even the E-Twins had a day off. So, I'm just going to set up the pitching matchups for the Twins series at home with the Angels that starts tonight. We'll go over the highlights from the Twins minor league affiliate games from yesterday and then I'm going to call it a day.
The big news yesterday was that Roger Clemens was kicked out of a baseball game. The funny part... he was kicked out of his son's 10-and-under baseball game. He was kicked out after commenting on a call against his son. The umpire said that Clemens spit sunflower seeds at him. As the day went on yesterday, this story seems to have been blown out of proportion.
The hit counts continue to rise. Please feel free to e-mail me any time and I will try to respond as soon as possible. Thank you!
The Twins had another off day yesterday, as all but four big league teams did not play. It gave everyone in America the opportunity to see Devil Rays phenom BJ Upton make his major league debut against he Red Sox on ESPN!
Johan Santana was named AL Pitcher of the Month for July. Joe Nathan and Terry Mulholland also received votes for the honor.
Here are the up-to-date standings in the AL Central:
American League Central Standings
Minnesota Twins 59-45 .567 ---
Chicago White Sox 53-49 .525 5.0
Cleveland Indians 53-53 .500 7.0
Detroit Tigers 50-55 . 476 9.5
Kansas City Royals 37-66 .350 21.5
Tonight the Twins and Angels start a three game series. Here are the pitching matchups:
Tuesday - 7:10 - Carlos Silva (9-7, 4.52, 1.45, .314) vs John Lackey (9-9, 4.52, 1.28, .267)
Wednesday - 7:10 - Kyle Lohse (4-8, 5.21, 1.66, .314) vs Aaron Sele (6-0, 4.66, 1.46, .284)
Thursday - 12:10 - Brad Radke (7-6, 3.77, 1.16, .274) vs Ramon Ortiz (3-6, 3.94, 1.27, .248)
Kelvim Escobar has been a small disappointment. Bartolo Colon has been a massive disappointment. Jarrod Washburn is on the disabled list. Garrett Anderson missed a lot of games. Darin Erstad has had injuries. Troy Glaus had surgery and is out for the season. But there bullpen is still great. The Twins could really use another series win.
OK, so now what are your thoughts on the Twins? E-mail me.
