Hunt Heads to Beloit

I have now heard it from two people that would certainly know, so I think I can post it here.

I don’t think anyone should be surprised that Shooter Hunt has now been promoted to the Beloit Snappers. He made four starts there, really just as a tune up, I think, and he dominated. He didn’t have a decision, but in 19 innings, he posted a miniscule 0.47 ERA. He walked six and struck out 34. His WHIP was just 0.53 thanks to allowing just four hits. I think this is good for the team to promote him. Indications are that he has very good ‘stuff’, including a terrific curveball. I have heard from some that he is reminiscent of Scott Baker, but with a better curveball. It will be fun to see how he does in the Midwest League. Hunt will turn 22 next month.

Secondly, Alex Curry was promoted from the GCL Twins to the E-Twins to replace Hunt. In six games with the GCL squad, Curry went 2-0 with a 1.46 ERA. In 24.2 innings, he allowed 15 hits, walked three and struck out 23. The 20 year old Curry was drafted this year out of Cypress College in the 25th round.

In another non-astonishing move in E-Town, Curtis Leavitt will be replacing Dan Berlind in the starting rotation. The 20 year old Berlind is 1-2 with a 12.46 ERA in seven Appy League starts. In 26 innings, he has given up 48 hits and 17 walks. What makes him still intriguing is the 37 strikeouts. Leavitt began the year in the starting rotation, but was taken out when Hunt was signed. In his last start, he gave up just one run in six innings. Since moving to the bullpen, he has worked 8.1 shutout innings and given up just four hits and two walks.

Have a great day!
