Updated Top 50

About six weeks ago, I posted my Top 50 Twins Prospects list. Then after the draft, I posted an update with where I would rank the 2008 drafted players. Most of the Twins top picks have signed and their careers have started. Although I won’t do a complete Top 50 until after the season, I thought a quick update of how I think that it has changed in the last six weeks would be fun. I will now include the 2008 picks into the list.

In my mind, it has been an extremely disappointing season for Twins prospects. Very few have stepped up to make me get overly excited about their futures. In fact, I can’t say that I think there is a sure thing in the system right now. There are several good prospects, but unlike previous years, there isn’t one or two guys that you just know will be big leaguers. At least I don’t have that feeling. That, of course, means nothing because nothing statistically fully matters until they get to the big leagues. Top prospects don’t always make it, and sometimes there are All-Star caliber players who were never top prospects.            There have been a bunch of prospects that I had a lot of hope for who have dropped in my view so far this season, some significantly. Again, that isn’t completely unusual either. But, why don’t I just get to the list… I will make minimal comments but I do encourage your questions or comments on any of the players listed or others you would include…

So what do you think? Plenty of change. A lot of 2008 draftees ranking high. I don’t think that speaks well for the current state of the system, but it does say that I think they drafted well and that’s important too. I am definitely curious as to what you think. Please feel free to voice your opinions, and certainly feel free to ask questions if you have them I will be able to answer questions from time to time throughout the day.
