The Draft - and any further comments you would like to discuss while I am out of town for a few days... and stuff!
Hey everyone! I am headed out of town until next Tuesday, but I want to do a quick post where people can talk about things, so please keep the Comments going as long as we can.
First, the draft has now started. The first round is complete. The Twins took a 5-9, 155 pound centerfielder known for his speed. His name is Ben Revere. I can't say it was a bad pick. We don't know yet. We will find out in 5-6 years, I guess. I just don't understand it. This guy is a smaller version of Denard Span. His speed is unquestioned, but the concern is his bat. Do the Twins not have enough speedy outfielders? Span, Roberts, Oeltjen, etc. But the key is to remember that we are talking about a guy who will likely be with the Twins in 2011 at best, so who knows where the Twins will be in terms of competitiveness and need. So, I guess the true value of this pick won't be known for some time. One thing is certain though, he is not a guy that will help the team soon. But then again, even if they would have taken a college 3B, it is likely that it still would take two years or so to move up. So, the jury is out. What do you think of the Revere pick?
Also, as I will be out of town, I would like if someone would be willing to update the Comments with each of the Twins picks? If someone would do that, I would be appreciative!
Anyway, I do have a Q&A with a Twins minor leaguer set up. I will ask someone to post that for me on Monday morning, so please keep checking back.
Have a great weekend!
