Sunday Scoreboard
Good afternoon! It is Sunday afternoon and each of the four Twins minor league affiliates games are complete. New Britain played a doubleheader. Below are the game reports. The Twins game just finished and they lost 4-2 to the A's. Johan Santana was definitely not on in this game. Some may want to blame the ump for a small strike zone, and that may be accurate in some cases, but he definitely did not have control in the game. I know that whole Moneyball thing and taking a lot of pitches, but combine that with a pitcher who isn't exactly throwing strikes and you get a very non-exciting game! Santana went six innings. He gave up four runs (3 earned) on five hits. He walked four and struck out four. Maybe the Santana performance makes us realize just how impressive Kevin Slowey was on Friday! Matt Guerrier got two outs in the top of the 7th, but he walked two and gave up a hit, and Carmen Cali had to come in and get the final out. He worked another scoreless inning.
Jason Kubel went 3-4 with a single to left, a single up the middle and a long home run to right centerfield. Luis Castillo again had two hits. Jason Bartlett was 1-2 with two walks. Michael Cuddyer had an RBI and another walk, but he had a few more bad swings at sliders a foot outside. He is really starting to look a lot like the Torii Hunter of old. He also takes a lot of pitches right down the middle on 2-0 and 3-1. That said, aside from this weekend, he is definitely producing. Nick Punto was 0-2, but he walked three times and stole two bases. Luis Castillo and Jason Bartlett also stole a base.
Monday night, the Twins will start a three game series in Anaheim against the Angels. It'll be Boof Bonser, Scott Baker and Kevin Slowey going against Jered Weaver, Kelvim Escobar and John Lackey.
The MLB draft starts on Thursday on ESPN2. If you're interested in learning about some of the names out there, be sure to go to John Sickels' site where he held a 5-round mock draft. See how the Twins fared. (Round 1, Supp. Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, Round 4, Round 5)
Joe Christensen had a great feature article in the Sunday Strib about Tony Oliva. He added more to his blog, and it is very interesting stuff.
