Twins 6, A's 5
These West Coast games are killer. The game was even quick and it is nearly midnight. Why couldn't the schedule have had the Twins in Texas during the week and in Oakland on the weekend? My eyes are shutting, so this will be quite quick. Just a few thoughts on the Twins late-night win. If you missed it, earlier this evening, I posted the Minor League update, so be sure to scroll down and check that out. If you missed any of the Comments on the Ask Seth posting, be sure to scroll down there are well. If you didn't check it out yesterday, check out the results of the AL Awards vote through this weekend (that I participate/vote in).
Livan Hernandez was OK again. Six innings and four runs. That is about what we should expect from him most games, and I don't think that the Twins would have expected any more. It isn't that good, but it is acceptable. Seven hits and two walks over six innings is definitely not what you would want, but with Livan, it is a likely result.
The bullpen was very good. Juan Rincon and Pat Neshek set up Joe Nathan, who was throwing hard and hitting spots.
Mike Sweeney could wake up on Christmas morning and hit like crazy against the Twins!
Jason Kubel's game-winning bloop single in the top of the 8th wasn't hit well, but it works!
It was well documented that Craig Monroe has had Joe Blanton's number. Coming into the game, Monroe was 7-11 against the A's starter. He had an RBI single in the second inning. He had an RBI double in the fifth frame. Finally in the seventh inning, he hit his first homer of the year. People wanted so badly to get rid of him, but after the three hits today, he is now hitting .300.
Mike Lamb also had three hits to raise his average to .186.
On a negative side, Carlos Gomez got the golden sombrero, striking out four times and really looking bad each time.
Nothing else is really coming to me regarding the game, so I would ask that you add some Comments for any thoughts you may have had throughout the game.
