Light Day
Hey ya'll, it's going to be a short one today:
Had some volleyball last night, the last night of the year. That is not a bad thing! Also, I have a couple of rather large meetings the next two days. So, I apologize for lack of content. But I do want to put something here to allow people to converse.
The Twins played well yesterday crushing Dontrelle Willis and the Marlins 9-1. Torii Hunter went 3-3 with a double and two RBI. Nick Punto was 3-4 and raised his average almost .100 points for the spring. The small sample size explains precisely why spring training stats mean nothing. Luis Castillo actually played and went 2-4. (is it becoming more and more obvious that the lackadaisical antics of Castillo are starting to wear on me?) The story though was the performance of Boof Bonser. He went four innings and faced the minimum number of batters. It is a very good performance. Jesse Crain's first pitch was to Mike Jacobs, and it was deposited well over the fence for the Marlins' lone run. Matt Garza came in for two innings and more importantly than pitching two innings, he felt no pain. Joe Nathan and Juan Rincon each pitched a scoreless inning.
Former Twins Update - Jacque Jones went 2-4 with a double and two RBI. Rob Bowen went 1-1 with a walk and an RBI. Cristian Guzman was 1-1 with two RBI as a pinch hitter. Augie Ojeda was 2-3. The most exciting performance by a former Twins player was Joe Mays who is with the Dodgers. Joe Mays went three innings in relief and gave up only one hit. Good for him! Kevin Cameron had the strangest pitching line of the day. He gave up three hits and a walk in one inning. And did not allow a run.
Josh Hamilton might be my favorite story of the spring. I really hope that he has overcome his demons and can succeed. It would be a great story of hope for so many people. People like Jeff Allison. He may be the person that could move Ken Griffey to RF! Other good stories of the spring... Rick Ankiel is back as an OF for the Cardinals. He is hitting a little bit this spring. Can he make the team as a 4th or 5th OF? What about Sammy Sosa? I know that many people do not like him. If you're one of them, so be it. But I remember 1998. I remember how Sosa did interviews in both English and Spanish and he did them with a smile unlike Mr. McGwire who had a completely different attitude. Call me crazy, but I want Sosa to do well. What about some prospects? Brandon Wood is moving to 3B. Alex Gordon has forced Mark Teahen to RF. Why has Casey Blake played 3B for the Indians the last two games. Is Andy Marte disappointing the Cleveland coaching staff?
So, in the Comments below, please feel free to discuss some of the spring training stories that you are following. Elaborate on the topic a little bit. Let's get some good discussion going! Help me out here! Oh, and don't forget to sign up for Contest #1. See details above.
