RANDOM THOUGHTS
No new entry today, but I do want to give those of you who are good enough to continue checking out my site. So, I am going to just link you to a few interesting articles from recent days and a few other thoughts. Enjoy, and have a great weekend.
I can't believe that I forgot to mention the Gopher's men's basketball win over Indiana Wednesday night. I am continuing to be shocked by the team's performance. I am, however, disappointed in one thing. I can't believe that Vincent Grier cut his hair! I loved the old look!
Also on Wednesday, the Minnesota Timberwolves won their fourth straight game, beating the Atlanta Hawks. Sure, beating the Hawks isn't much (although it's better than any alternative), but before that the team did beat the Lakers and Blazers on the road and then the defending champion Detroit Pistons.
People are constantly asking me what is wrong with the Wolves so far this year. My new theory is that they need to all have an understanding of who the top scoring options are on the court at all times. Yes, Kevin Garnett should always be option #1 and should get touches 4 out of 5 possessions, if not more. But, I think it goes beyond that. Here is how I would rank the team's scoring options
Kevin Garnett
Wally Szczerbiak
Latrell Sprewell
Sam Cassell (moves up a slot in the 4th quarter)
Eddie Griffin
Fred Hoiberg
Troy Hudson
Michael Olowokandi
Trenton Hassell
Anthony Carter
John Thomas
Mark Madsen
Ervin Johnson
I think Wally is proving himself again. He was an All-Star and now seems to be back to 100% With Wally coming off the bench, Sprewell should become Option #2 in the starting lineup. With him, he needs to get it going early to get into the game. Cassell needs to be a distributor. He takes a lot of early shots. He's not as bad as Hudson like that, and is a far more consistent shooter than THUD. Eddie Griffin is a gunner, and he plays both ends of the court. Freddy Hoiberg can shoot! And then, in all honesty, the rest of the guys are bit players who will be their shots in the system, and on second chances, etc. They need some more defined roles. I think that is important.
Twins Fest starts tonight. If you can attend, I would encourage you to. And also, if you would like to share your thoughts with me, or the SethSpeaks audience, please e-mail me your experience.
Last week, I discussed my experience at the Twins Caravan in Thief River Falls. The Caravan continued this week with two other groups. Again, the Twins mlb.com site gave updates from a group that included Michael Cuddyer, Matthew LeCroy, Bert Blyleven and Al Newman. Here are the accounts (Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4).
Also, on the official Bert Blyleven site, he wrote about the Twins Caravan as well.
Yesterday, I ran a Q&A with Stick and Ball Guy. If you go to his site today, you will see the newest edition of 10 topics, 50 words.
The Twins Geek analyses the Twins signing of CJ Nitkowski. He makes some good points, the best is questioning why the Twins don't seem to be giving David Gassner more of a shot as a lefty out of the bullpen. Gassner led the International League in Wins last year and was very solid.
Be sure to change your bookmarks. A great site was Reds Daily. Well, JD has switched his site and it now has a new format. It is now called Reds Reporter. This is another writer that I read every day!
And one final link - I would encourage everyone to check out the BrentNet Forums. Plenty of very interesting topics across the board.
Have yourselves a great weekend! And, as always, please feel free to e-mail me.
