TWINS CARAVAN UPDATE

Good morning! Just wanted to post a quick update after I attended a phase of the Twins Caravan this morning. I looked at the schedule and mapquested the location of this morning’s session in South St. Paul. It was only about 9 miles away and my schedule worked with it, so I drove over there. According to the Twins site, it was supposed to be from 9:30-10:30, but when I got there (Fury Motors) at about 9:20, there was a sign on the door saying that the event would be 10-10:30. A little before 10:00, the Twins bus drove up. Shortly thereafter, Bert Blyleven came out. Then a few others, and a couple of minutes later, Kevin Slowey, Scott Baker and others came in to the dealership. They walked up the steps to where there were a couple of tables set up for them.

I was at the top of the steps, and when Blyleven walked by, he shook my hand and said I had the Tim Laudner hair do. Then Slowey came up, then Baker. Shook their hands. John Gordon was there as well. There was not a formal program, it was just an autograph/meet and greet session. Baker and Slowey were at one table and Blyleven got his own work cubicle.

I didn’t bring cards or anything to sign. The players did have their 3x5 pictures ready to be signed though for those of you who want to attend, but don’t have anything to sign. Once the signing began, I went over and talked to Kelly Thesier, the Twins beat writer for mlb.com. We had a really nice chat for about 15 minutes. It was really enjoyable and we talked about several topics, nothing too serious. Although I know there are some that may not agree, she really does do her job very well! As the line for the players shrunk to nothing, I went over to the table and talked to Kevin Slowey for probably 10 minutes. Baker was at the table and I talked to him briefly. But it was cool to see how well they interacted with the fans, made them all feel important, asked questions and showed real interest. I think they did a nice job of making great memories for kids of all ages.

As things were wrapping up, I went over and talked to FSNs Marney Gellner who is pregnant and I believe due in the next two months. As you know, I make appearances on Jack Michaels’ radio show on am 710 The Fan, Bismarck-Mandan’s (ND) ESPN affiliate. Well, Marney is a regular. She is on for Tuesdays with Marney.  Just talked to her for maybe two or three minutes.

That was it. I then took off. That tour is now on its way south and east. Today yet, they will be Winona and other areas. If you get a chance, please attend and say hi from me, and thank them for doing Q&As and such!

Have a great day!

Seth
