REAL QUICK
Good Friday morning Everyone! I'm going to be real quick today. Wednesday was a long day, and I'm going to get some sleep. I am leaving my Twins Caravan posting on this main page for the weekend. If you checked the site yesterday morning early, you may have missed some of the new pictures or more. Today, I'm just going to post a couple of quick thoughts (so, if you want more SethSpeaks, be sure to check out the Archives):
FoxSports.com's Dayn Perry continues his look at the Top 100 prospects in baseball with Numbers 71-80. Another Twins prospect, Alex Romero, makes the list at #80 (remember Boof Bonser was #89).
Second, the great Will Young will be in Minnesota for a couple of days. He is planning a get-together for Twins fans. So, on Monday (Jan. 23), Will will be at Joe Senser's Sports Bar in Bloomington at 6:30. It sounds like a fun night, so if you have a chance, stop by for awhile for some Twins talk.
Speaking of get-togethers for
Twins fans in the cities, I got an e-mail from Michael Samuelson
about a great event that you'll also want to mark on your calendar,
the Hot Stove League Baseball Banquet:
"Our group
of hardcore baseball fans will be hosting its 24th Annual
Ballpark Tours Hot Stove League Banquet and Charity Auction on Fri.,
1/27, 6 to 9 pm at the Bandana Square Center, 1021 Energy Park
Drive, St. Paul. As with past years, all funds from our auction
goes to the Dunning Field Little League that is in the Summit
University neighborhood of St. Paul. We have raised over $30,000
for these kids since 1982! This year our lineup includes our host
and MC Brad Zeller of The Rake magazine, Twins great and Hall of
Fame member Rod Carew, St. Paul Saints manager George Tsamis, former
Twins executive and co-owner Clark Griffith plus a special tribute
to Negro League great Ted "Double Duty" Radcliffe. Tickets are an
affordable $25 and can be purchased at Anodyne Coffee, 43rd &
Nicollet, Mpls, Golden Thyme Coffee, 921 Selby, St. Paul and Old Man
River Cafe, Annapolis & Smith in West St. Paul or by calling
651-227-3437. If available, they are $30 at the door. Our
banquet is not your "father's hot stove get-together". It is a fun,
irreverent and raucous time where young, middle age and elder fans
join with each other to dissect the previous year and celebrate the
upcoming baseball season."
Next week, the Twins Winter Caravan will be out in three groups. Check their schedule to see if the Twins will be near you, and if so, be sure to go! But the get-together of all offseason Minnesota Twins get-togethers will begin next Friday night and go through the entire weekend. Twins Fest 2006 will begin on Friday night at the Metrodome. Most of the current Minnesota Twins and several former and future Twins will be in attendance to sign for the fans. The cost at the door is $10, but you can get tickets ahead of time for $8.
Pat Neshek posted the times that he will be signing on his site.
Congratulations to Luis Rivas who reached an agreement with the Devil Rays on a minor league contract. Of course, he has very little chance of making the team, unless it is as a #2 utility infielder. With Jorge Cantu at 2B and Julio Lugo holding off BJ Upton at SS, Rivas likely is battling the likes of Nick Green for the role player spot. Good luck! I hope things work out for him!
A reader of my site read my discussion with Andy Price and Lew Ford about the Twins uniforms, and he decided to design his own idea for a new uniform. Feel free to discuss it here, or on his post, with picture, over at TwinkieTown.
Thank you to Stick & Ball Guy for this commentary on the steroids issue in baseball.
Jeff Sullivan wrote an amazing article on pitcher release points for The Baseball Analysts. Honestly, some of it is over my head, but the concepts and theories make a lot of sense!
My NFL Conference Championship
predictions are:
Denver Broncos 20, Pittsburgh Steelers 17
Seattle Seahawks 31, Carolina Panthers 28
Now, I am going to sleep. If you'd like, send me an e-mail and we can chat about anything. I will also be checking the Comments from time to time to talk about any issues you may have. Again, if you haven't read my article on the Twins coming to Warroad,, see below.
