Just a Couple Random Thoughts
OK, I'm going to be honest, I just don't even feel like writing anything tonight, so this will be very short (no, really, very short!), but I will try to get more tomorrow, including my thoughts on the Vikings/Eagles game. Just a couple quick thoughts:
1.) I can't believe that I didn't talk about Tuesday night's The Biggest Loser finale! What a great show. The winner was Ryan (Photo from nbc.com), who came to the show weighing 330 pounds and at the live weigh-in, he was at 208. That is a loss of 122 pounds or 37% of his body weight. His body fat also dropped 18%. For that, he won $250,000! My man Gary lost a lot of weight and actually just looked like a completely different person. Kelly came in third. What a great show. And next week, the 9 others who did not finish in the top 3 will be weighed and the winner from that group will get $100,000!
2.) The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model search is an excellent concept for a show, but it really isn't that good!
3.) And don't forget... an all-new Joey tonight!
4.) The Timberwolves are just not playing well. Last night they lost to a solid Orlando Magic team. I'm a huge fan, so it all comes down to, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all! When it comes to the Wolves, there just isn't a lot of good to say, unless the name Kevin Garnett is involved.
5.) There are a couple of really great forums going right now at BrentNet. One that I have enjoyed reading and participated in was "Who is the NBA's MVP to this point?" Steve Nash's name comes up a lot because of the Suns' success. Kevin Garnett is the league's best overall player. Tim Duncan, Dwayne Wade and Amare Stoudmire deserve recognition too. But my choice, and the choice of some others... 20 year old, Lebron James! He is far better than anyone could have ever guessed.
6.) I mentioned quite some time ago that the Minnesota Gophers men's basketball team was fun to watch for the first time in years. They pass the ball well and play an unselfish, team style of play that we haven't seen the last few years. I mentioned that because of the incredibly pathetic pre-Big 10 schedule, the Gophers could enter the Big 10 with a 10-3 record. That is exactly what they did. And then they demolished Penn State in the Big 10 Opener. I didn't want to get too excited about that because Penn State may not win a game in the Big 10. But last night, the Gophers beat a legitimate, although underachieving, Purdue team. Vincent Grier is legit, and led the team with 14 points last night, despite shooting just 2-7 from the field. Aaron Robinson had 12 and J'son Stamper had 11. I think that Rico Tucker is the real deal too, and he's a real freshman. Can this be the year that the Gophers get to the NCAA tournament? Is it finally fair to start talking fairly about the coaching of Dan Monson? I guess we'll see!
7.) I so didn't need this! I think that Red McCombs has made a lot of money on his purchase of the Vikings. He is now keeping salaries well below the salary cap, and he continues to threaten to move the team to Los Angeles. There are a million reasons not to like Mr. McCombs. But, yesterday, he gave us (Vikings fans) all a reason to like him. McCombs sent a request to Fox to have Joe Buck removed from calling the Vikings/Eagles game on Sunday! He called Buck's commentary on Randy Moss "suggested a prejudice that surpasses objective reporting." Now, of course Fox refused to do anything about it, which is their prerogative, but I am glad that the Vikings owner said something!
8.) Yesterday, I did a Q&A with Bill Ferris (see below) who writes The Detroit Tigers Weblog. Yesterday, he had an interview with Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski. Very interesting.
On that note, that is it for today! Have a great day! 706 words!!
